What's A Mobile Aerial Work Platform?
BI Meadow Lake

Aerial platform. Man lift. Scissor lift. Boom lift. Access platform. Cherry picker. Vertical lift. We certainly don’t blame you if your head is spinning from all of these terms. After all, they’re used so interchangeably—and often to describe the same kind of equipment—that it’s difficult to know the difference between them all. And that makes it even harder to know which one you should use at your work site.

What Is a Mobile Aerial Work Platform?

It’s time to put all the confusion to rest. Despite all those fancy and varied terms that are used for marketing purposes, the definition of a mobile aerial work platform is as simple as could be. It describes a work platform that can be easily moved. A mobile aerial platform is most often truck mounted—unlike a scissor lift or Genie lift, which need to be trailered and delivered to the project site, often with an expensive fee associated.

In order to help workers be as productive and efficient as possible, a mobile aerial platform also needs to be capable of a range of motion, including a high reach, a horizontal reach, and 360 degree turntable rotation.

Bronto Skylift: The Safest, Most Efficient Mobile Aerial Work Platform

If you’re on the search for a mobile aerial work platform that will make your day on the job easier and keep your workers safe, you can’t go wrong with a Bronto Skylift. Here’s why:

Mobility. Bronto Skylifts were made for mobility, whether your work site is indoors or outdoors. Thanks to the hinged sections, it’s easy for operators to work in narrow spaces and access tough-to-reach work areas where barriers or obstacles create a challenge. But it’s just as mobile for the outdoors, too. In fact, they can be driven off-road—and with 14 units boasting a six-axle all-terrain all-drive, there’s no terrain too rugged for a Bronto Skylift.

Versatile movement. Unlike other AWPs, Bronto Skylifts can reach down (-50 feet) and up (+295 feet), and some models have a horizontal outreach capacity of 131 feet. The 360-degree reach of a Bronto Skylift makes work more efficient, since team members won’t have to move the truck just to change positions. For example, it’s ideal for an operator at an oil refinery who’s required to move horizontally to various spots along the pipes, or for a worker who needs to be lifted down to repair a bridge.

High reach. Bucket trucks, cherry pickers, and other boom trucks are often capped with a max reach of 180 feet. Many of Kardie Equipment’s Bronto Skylift, on the other hand, can reach as high as 295 feet, making them an ideal choice for teams who need to scale to extreme heights.

Time-efficient. Unlike scaffolding and other competing equipment, which can take weeks or months to set up and tear down, a Bronto Skylift can be set up and ready to go in an impressive 15 minutes. This means your business saves not just time but money, too.

Superior safety standards. Unlike cranes and man buckets, Bronto Skylifts were specifically engineered to carry workers rather than tools and equipment. They’ve passed elite safety standards and are time-tested in rigorous conditions to ensure your safety and protection, holding the highest safety records and EMR ratings in the industry. Features include:
  • Smooth boom movements and automatic leveling
  • Dual emergency descent systems
  • Multiple backup operating systems
  • Rigid work platforms permanently attached to the telescopic boom
  • Bronto baskets that can withstand winds up to 31 mph
  • Intercom between the work platform and ground
  • Cage load sensor and overload alarm
  • Wind speed indicator and alarm
  • Emergency stop functions from the work platform, ground control, and outrigger control center
